I'm trying to run sselph's scraper and running into some issues. Until a few days ago, it seemed to work fine. Then for some reason, it stopped working. When I use the scraper, I'm exiting emulation station then cd Retropie_Setup and then ./retropie_setup.sh. Then I select to run sselph with the default settings.

      The error I'm getting says:

ss: cannot parse response: "invalid character '<' looking for beginning of value"

The error appears for every single .zip file, including ones that the scraper has successfully scraped in the past. I've tried changing the consolesource, but similar errors appear for every zip file. I've googled this and some of the posts said that there could be a temporary problem with the scraping website being down, but this error has been showing up for several days now. I also saw where some people deleted the previously scraped files. So, I tried copying the downloaded_images and gamelists folders to my PC and deleted them from my RetroPie. This didn't affect anything.

I'm not sure what to try next. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks!

The ScreenScraper.fr source site has some problems and they're offline at the moment - that's why you get errors during scraping. Use another scraping source or wait for the site to return.
