Argon One Case: Disable power button
-
Hi folks,
I want to integrate an Argon One Pi4 Case into my new bartop. Since I want to power up the whole system via the main power switch, I do not need the power button on the Argon case anymore.
Is there a way of disabling the power button? I have already tried to uninstall the argon script by
argonone-uninstall
But still, the Pi keeps switched off when I turn on the main power.
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you and best

@maschine To my knowledge "You can't" - the power-supply is pluged to the board of the argon-one that is handling the power supplied to the raspi, and that has no pass-through switch to override its functionality... Whereas the argon neo has no power-management built in and (unknown to most) an optional fan module with an action switch (Argon Neo & Argon Fan HAT review from the MagPi Magazine), so maybe that one would be the better choice in your case (no pun indented). I Have the Neo (besides a one), but not the fan for it - so i cannot say anything to its power switch, but as I understand the description "perform safe shutdown, forced shutdown, and reboot" it sounded GPIO triggered script only, and as the power ain't connected to it and from it to the pi, there shouldn't be the same problem to be encountered).
But don't you think (IMHO) that having the Pi stowed away and out of sight, there are other solutions available - focusing on substance and no need for style?

Sure, once the Pi is hidden inside the bartop, there is no more need for style. Actually, I liked the metal of the case, which kept the Pi pretty cool and therefore no need of extra ventilation.
I think I will go for the stock case instead, which will do the job as well.
Thank you!

@maschine Replying to an old message here, mainly in case others are looking for the same.
If you want to fully disable the power button, then check the manual for this case. It describes a hardware jumper that can be set to fully disable the power button. Power will always flow to the RPi4B board.
By setting the jumper to pin 2-3, the device will be in always on mode.
