Is anyone using Parallel-N64 core for N64 games on a Pi 4?
-
@rva-818x-laystar Parallel is possibly the best emulator on the pi for Goldeneye, but other than that it doesn't get much use.
-
@zering is the version retroarch runs good for Goldeneye?
-
@billymild The best there is at the moment. I tried it a few days ago on the back of this post and it runs very smooth both graphics and sound
-
@billymild The snow in the siberian levels is screwed up and there is still some slowdown but it's better than any other core for this game.
-
my understanding of lr-parallel is that it requires more than simply vulkan compliance; it relies on specific extensions. i am certain that pi 4 does not support it properly, and will continue to use its fallback of ancient HLE graphics plugins.
these may work well in specific circumstances, but they are dead-end projects that will have compatibility issues, and will never be improved.
i maintain that mupen64plus-gliden64 (and, lesserly, lr-mupen64plus-next) are the only viable long-term approaches for pi4 n64 emulation.

@dankcushions There's no question there. Parallel is literally only good for Goldeneye, and even then it's not perfect. But until glide catches up parallel is the best core to play that game on the Pi.
-
@zering when I use this emulator the game doesn't load and goes back to EmulationStation and the list of N64 Games.
-
@billymild That's weird. Are you sure the issue with this game happens only when using this core?
-
@billymild have you got your n64 roms zipped? I don't think Parallel supports zip filez while the other emulators do. Might be wrong but worth checking.

lr-parellel-n64 handles .zips: I tried it for Golden Eye, just because of this thread.

@badfurday they are not Zipped.
