DualShock no audio
-
Hi, I have a PlayStation 4 Dual Shock controller that, when plugged in by USB, to Retropie causes the audio to disappear. When unplugged audio returns. Can anyone help resolve this issue so I can use the Dual Shock?

?
What power supply are you using, and what Raspberry, what are your other plugged in usb devices

The DS4 controller has an audio jack - when plugged in via USB, a new soundcard is added to the system. My guess is that the audio configuration picks up this new soundcard and outputs to it.
@Matthewlawson3 how is your audio configured ? Some details about your system (as @Crush mentioned) would be useful to know .

I have a similar configuration but didn't notice this issue. How did you set the Audio to Headphones - did you use the RetroPie system's Audio settings or through another method ?

I basically followed the video below to force the 3.5 mm headphone jack. If I recall correctly, I enabled 3.5 mm headphone jack in the audio section of retropie and in raspi config and in retropie setup. I wasn't getting any sound out of the speakers till I forced it.

When you open the Audio menu in from the RetroPie system, does it say PulseAudio at the top ?

It says Set Audio Output (ALSA)
At the time I checked I didn’t have the Dual Shock plugged in. Does that matter?

No, it doesn't. Was making sure you didn't have PulseAudio installed. Here's a quick'n'dirty method to get rid of the audio switch:
- have a keyboard connected to the Pi or use SSH to connect to it
- exit EmulationStation and run the following command
echo blacklist snd-usb-audio | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-snd-usb-audio.conf
- reboot your Pi
NOTE: this disables any USB based audio devices, so if you ever want to connect an audio sound card, remove the file you created (
sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-snd-usb-audio.conf
