I play on rasbian buster and it was fun then I realized every time I turned of my retropie it would delete. for an example In the game I was playing (Earthbound) I would get really far then save. I could leave the game to play Mario 64 then come back to earthbound to play again and my save state will be there but when I turn off retropie my earthbound would reset. but this also happened to link to the past but this would not happen to super Metroid. Plus this so far only happens to snes nothing else some games in snes work others do not. If somebody can help me please do.

@zacc1 retroarch, and by extension, retropie, does not save game saves to disk until you exit out back to emulation station. By default It just holds it in RAM. If you have a power switch and using that to just shut down the pi while in game, the pi will just shut down without properly exiting retro arch, and will not save the the file. Same would happen during a power outage. Luckily there is an option in the retro arch menu under saving options to save to disk over a set amount of time. I set it to 15 seconds and it will check if there is a change every 15 sends and save it to disk while in game.

@zacc1 said in save data in snes does not load:

but when I turn off retropie my earthbound would reset

What do you mean by “turn off retro pie” ? The proper way is to exit a game, which will save your data, and then hit start in emulation station and shut down from that menu.

@zacc1 yeah, don’t do that. Always shut down before you unplug. Or just leave it running. The pi uses less power then a cellphone charging on average.
