Kodi not recognizing USB drives

Searched forums here and elsewhere, but no luck. I've installed Retropie successfully and added roms via usb drive. I then added Kodi (under Ports), but for some reason Kodi can't see the usb drive. Anyone experience this problem or have an idea of what's wrong?
