Another Problem Setting Up A PS3 controller
-
Hi there:
(See edit 2 & 3)
I am trying to link my "Genuine" Sony /Sixaxis PS3 Controller. I have followed these instructions for both the sixaxis and ps3controller drivers. I am unable to connect via bluetooth using either driver. the controller works fine in windows. The result is the same either way, after installing either driver - I go to the Retropie Menu, select Bluetooth, Select Pair and Connect to Bluetooth Device. I follow the instructions and set up my controller. The controller vibrates and the system advises that I have successfully authenticated Sony PS3 Controller and address. It advises that I can unplug the USB cable. I unplug the USB cable and go to "Show paired & connected bluetooth devices" and I am told there are no paired/connected devices. The controller doesn't work. I feel like I am missing something obvious.
-
I have reset the controller and this made no difference.
-
In Retropie, I have cleared/reset my controller configurations before starting any new attempt.
-
Uninstalled each driver and rebooted the entire OS.before attempting the other driver. I realize If I were to use the ps3controller driver I will have to edit the /etc/rc.local file - but as I never get the controller working - I do not bother.

edit: when I run the command bluetoothctl in the terminal - I get the following response:
Agent registered
[Sony PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controlleredit 2: Ok, I do not know what I did different today but I got it working (with sixaxis) except for the left & right triggers...... any ideas? Seems like it has happened before, here and here. BTW I don't think the pads are dirty - the controller works fine when it is connected as wired controller and in Windows.
edit 3: I grew frustrated with a flakey connection and inoperative buttons with sixaxis - so I switched to the ps3controller and was able to set it up as a genuine PS3 Controller. I do not know why this worked now and why the sixaxis driver isn't fully functional. This site recommends the Sixaxis driver over the PS3controller driver, my experience does not confirm this recommendation. I am grateful there was an alternative.
