      Hi!

      Here are my specs...

Pi Model or other hardware: Zero W
Power Supply used: iPad power brick
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.7.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Game controller, keyboard (via USB hub)
      Controller used: Rii game controller
      Guide used: Using RetroPie docs
      Emulator: lr-atari800

I am trying to map some keyboard buttons to my controller for a specific game: Realm of Impossibility. Back in the day, you played the game with a joystick and a keyboard, so that you could use the keyboard's C, P, and F keys to cast spells.

But since the gamepad has "extra" buttons, I figured "Why use a keyboard? Just map those three keys to some of the buttons I'm not using!"

      Easier said than done!

I went into the Quick Menu, chose Controls, then changed Device Type to "Atari Keyboard." Then I did this:

      Auto: 3 (N/A), (key: y) Keyboard c

I imagined that this would set controlled button Y to "Keyboard C," meaning that when I hit Y on the controller, it would tell the emulator I'd pressed C on the keyboard.

      But it doesn't work.

I've tried this a bunch of times (dutifully saving my game config each time) and I just can't get it to work.

I feel like I must be staring the solution right in the face, but it's somehow eluding me. Help!

@billydent Did you try 'Atari Joystick" instead of keyboard?

@jamrom2 I did, but that doesn’t give me the option of choosing keyboard keys when I go to the config.
