Control issue only for new games added on mame-libretro
-
Hello,
After many days of research, I request help from expert as I do not understand how to solve my issue and have no more clue :-(
I'm using a retropie distrib that cames with a couple of mame games. All these games are working fine : I can credit, start, use the TAB command, and play all these arcade games, with my keyboard and also my analog joypad :
But for all the games added manually, impossible to use the keyboard or the joypad, no key is working. no credit, no TAB function...The only working key is the ESC on the keyboard and the Joypad hotkey combination to exit the game! I can start the game in retropie, but I can only watch attract mode... :-(So it looks like an easy problem to fix-> let's start the games in verbose mode and let's figure out what could be the difference.
Return of the Jedi has no input issue
Star Wars has the input issue. The content of runcommand.info for JEDI (no issue):
mame-libretro lr-mame2003 /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/jedi.zip /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mame2003/mame2003_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/jedi.zip"
The content of runcommand.info for STAR WARS (issue):
mame-libretro lr-mame2003 /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/starwar1.zip /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mame2003/mame2003_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/starwar1.zip"
As you can see , Retropie launches both in the same way... so nothing special here...
I compared boh runcommand.log, and they are the sames regarding the input, so why Star Wars can't recognize any of my input (keyboad or joystickUSB) ?
I tried to delete the starwar1.cfg & default.cfg files :
pi@retropie:~/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/cfg $ ls -altri totale 92 2415 drwxr-xr-x 10 pi pi 4096 apr 14 2018 .. 2416 drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 mag 19 18:04 . 5031 -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 676 mag 19 18:05 jedi.cfg 5028 -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 1620 mag 19 18:25 starwar1.cfg 111903 -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 8336 mag 19 18:25 default.cfg
but after launching Star Wars, both files are back, and sting not possible to use any key or joyad for this game :
pi@retropie:~/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/cfg $ rm starwar1.cfg pi@retropie:~/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/cfg $ rm default.cfg pi@retropie:~/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/cfg $ ls -altri totale 92 2415 drwxr-xr-x 10 pi pi 4096 apr 14 2018 .. 5031 -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 676 mag 19 18:05 jedi.cfg 5116 -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 1620 mag 19 19:34 starwar1.cfg 4990 -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 8336 mag 19 19:34 default.cfg 2416 drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 mag 19 19:34 .
I also tried to reconfigure manually the controls in Star Wars in the Quick Menu, (accessible with hotkey+x) -> Input and rebind few controls such 'credit' in order to start the game, but it doesn't work either :-(
Any clue to make inputs work for new games added in a 1.7.1 MAME 2003 0.78 ?
Of course, I precise the new roms added are coming from a 0.78 version romsetSorry for the big log text but it's the only way to show I can't spot any issue.
Please help me Obiwan Kenobi, you are my only hope :-(

We don't support 3rd party images, especially the ones that distribute copyrighted ROMs. Use the image from retropie.org.uk/download and if you still have issues with Mame2003 and arcade games, post here in the topic.

Hello,
Thanks for pushing me to try from the ground, using a fresh/official/empty image.
I've installed the retropie-buster-4.7.1-rpi2_3.img available on your download page here, add the rom and... no more controls issue! :-) Damn! I spent days on this issue... and it was so easy :-)
Long live to Retropie :-)
