Savestates taking forever

Hi, I have a pi 3 B+ and things seem to be working fine, but savestates take forever, sometimes not at all, to work. this happens on any emulator, bigger consoles take longer, and i’m not sure what to do. Any thoughts? Also i’m running my games off a usb stick

/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfgand the one for the system in question) and verbose log.
