Emulationstation cannot launch anything from within it.
-
I have been running rpie on my debian PC for 3 days. It worked fine the first day but the second day the problem started:
Emulationstation starts but I am unable to run anything from within it. So when entering a game the ES window disappears for a second but reappears as nothing was started. There is no white window which states a game is being launched and gives option to enter game config. This includes games and items in the configuration menu such as 'retropie setup.' On rare occasion everything runs fine. But then the next time I run ES it is broken.
I do not believe it is due to a change I made to any setting.
If you have any idea of how this issue might be solved. Any help would be appreciated.
Below is a part of the log from when I tried to enter a game and then tried to enter 'bluetooth' from preferences menu -unsuccessfully both.Thanks.

@hjalti Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
Please show the runcommand log for a game. If using a libretro emulator enable verbose logging via runcommand. Need more details to debug. Thanks.

@buzz Thanks you. I had skimmed through this post. But since the problem is that emulators are not actually starting from emulationstation I did not think of running with verbose flag.
However I very stupidly destroyed my system's partition last night. I will make a fresh install of debian today and report whether the issue occurs.

I did a fresh install of debian 10 and emulationstation V2.9.6RP the problem is still here. All works fine on first try but third time I run the program it will not run any emulators or open items from the retropie configuration menu. Instead the window minimizes and comes back into focus in a second. It is not possible to run with verbose logging as the screen that allows you to enter config before running emulation does not appear. I find it strange that I am the only one with this problem.

@hjalti How are you starting EmulationStation ? Are you using the RetroPie shortcut/launcher or you created your own shortcut ?
-
@mitu That's actually an excellent question.
I have been using my own launcher which only has the command 'emulationstation' -This was the error. If I run the command in a terminal window or use the rpie launcher which does the same; Everything works. So a massive thanks to you!
