[Solved] Possible to output both HDMI and headphones for audio?
-
Hi.
Google searched but didn't find anything on this specifically for Retropie.
I have HDMI going to TV.
I have headphones going to Creative Pebble V3 for external speakers.
It would be nice if I could also use the TV speakers as well.
My TV only accepts TV speakers or external speakers in it's menu option. Not both at the same time and doesn't have bluetooth.
Raspberry Pi 4 with up to date OS.

Yes, it's possible, as in one application can use either sound output. Do you want to send the sound output simultaneously to both the HDMI and analog jack ?

Yes please.
Audio out to both HDMI and headphones.
Hopefully they are synced together at the same time with no audio delay between them.

This might work with some ALSA configuration, but it doesn't seem to be a simple configuration. Looks simpler with PulseAudio, but RetroPie doesn't use it or install it by default and it may introduce additional delay/lag in the audio rendering.

I found an easy way to do this.
I just needed something like a Turtle Beach Ear Force DSS 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound Processor.
One can find that on Ebay currently for $10.
