      RetroPie version 4.7.18
      Built from original RetroPie image
      Raspberry Pi 4b 2gb

      Re: How to compile modified version of EmulationStation and update it on RetroPie

      I am trying to install another version of EmulationStation and I was following the instructions found on the above thread but unfortunately when I go into retropie_setup.sh and try to install it, I see the new option but when I choose it I dont have the option to install it, it only shows "Package help"

      Any ideas?

      Thanks

        OK I seem to have it working, I noticed that thread was old and was maybe not set up correctly for the latest version of RetroPie.
        So my solution was to use the "emulationstation-dev.sh" as a template and just edit this line with the location of the alternative Emulationstation:

        rp_module_repo="git https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation master"

        This time the option to install from source came up, woohoo :D Now to hope it actually works as intended...fingers crossed!

          Ok it is kinda working, it seems I need to do a lot of editing to the github files to make it work nicely with the original retropie install as various default directories are different in this alternative emulationstation.
          This isnt as straight forward as I thought it would be lol
