What is the difference between the "Basic Install" and "Update" options?
-
Hi, can someone tell me what the difference is between the "Basic Install" and "Update" options from the Setup menu? I did read the docs but didn't really understand the "Basic Install" information regarding not having to do this step if building on top of a pre-built image.
My situation is this. I have a blank SD card. I flashed the Retropie image using the Raspberry Pi Imager software.
Should I run the "Basic Install" and then run the "Update" options. Or should I just run the "Update" option? Or should I not run any of these at all.
I did post previously regarding what steps needed to be done after a fresh image install but I wound up corrupting my card so had to start from new again.
Thanks for your help.

You know that each menu item has a help message, which you can read by using the Help button ?
Basic install should be used when you're trying to install RetroPie from scratch, on a Raspberry Pi OS image or Debian/Ubuntu/Other supported platform.
Update should be used when you want to update your already installed system.

@fretman personally i dont know about basic install. i would think that it would uninstall anything that was not preinstalled from a fresh image.
i always run update after a fresh image so that way all the updates and tweaks that the devs have done i also get.
the only time i dont do a update is when it breaks anything that i have custom installed myself.
hope this helps
