Tried to update script, and now every option in the RetroPie menu runs the same error script

I was preparing to set up PS1 emulator on my RP3, and following recommendations to run updates on everything first. I went into setup and updated the script, and suddenly there was a long-running script of failure messages. Now I get these error messages for absolutely every option in the RetroPie menu from Audio to WiFi. Please help!!

How old is it? Are you still on Raspbian 9 (stretch)? Check with:

cat /etc/os-release

You may need to upgrade to Raspbian 10 (Buster). You cannot upgrade in situ, you will have to install the latest image and then copy over your backed-up roms, bios and configs folders.

It looks like your version is based on Raspbian 8 (Jesse).
You are two OS versions behind current.
As @sleve_mcdichael mentioned you should download and install the latest pre-built image.
