      Hi All,

Raspberry Pi 4 build. Imaged from the website.

For some reason, anytime I try to open an NES rom, it just goes back to the selection screen. I have tried selecting the different NES emulators, and unzipping the files (all are .nes).

Any thoughts on to how to get it running?

Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 1.5GHz 64-bit quad-core ARMv8 CPU (4GB RAM)
Power Supply used: CanaKit USB-C Raspberry Pi 4 Power Supply with CanaKit USB-C PiSwitch
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.7.19
Built From: Premade off Raspberry Pi.com
USB Devices connected: USB Gamepad, USB Wired Keyboard, USB Wireless Mouse
          Controller used: USB SNES Gamepad
Error messages received: No error message
          Verbose log (if relevant): N/A
          Guide used: N/A
          File: /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/nes/10-Yard Fight .nes
          Emulator: lr-fceumm - NES emulator
          Attachment of config files:
          "nes
          lr-fceumm
          /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/nes/10-Yard Fight (USA, Europe).nes
          /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fceumm/fceumm_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/nes/10-Yard Fight (USA, Europe).nes"
          How to replicate the problem:
I have unzipped the file and I am unable to open the game. Everytime I try to open the game, the load screen comes up then it goes black, then I am back in the RetroPie NES selection screen. This happens with all the roms in NES.

Please don't open multiple topics for the same issue. I merged the topics you opened into one.

For your problem at hand, a verbose log would have been useful, you've posted the /dev/shm/runcommand.info file, but /dev/shm/runcommand.log would contain the actual error. Since NES emulators don't need a BIOS file, the problem may be the ROM itself - are you using 'headered' ROMs or not ? I don't think Fceumm or other NES emulators support it.

              @mitu Sorry about the duplicate.

              Parameters:
              Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fceumm/fceumm_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/nes/10-Yard Fight.nes" --appendconfig /dev/shm/retroarch.cfg

I dont think I am using Headers, but I will double check.

This is not a verbose log. Look up how you enable verbose logging in the page I linked and post the log file (which is going to be quite large) on pastebin.com.

It doesn't detect your rom file as a nes file, so it thinks it might be a fds file, for which you are missing the bios (it's not a fds game anyway, 10 yard fight was not released on fds). Your rom is probably corrupt, but if you are confident it's not then you can always try it with another nes emulator (nestopia or mesen are probably way better choices on a pi4 anyway since they are more accurate and pi4 should be able to handle them).
