Zero v2 problem to install
-
Hello, I have the new Raspberry Pi Zero W version 2, and I love it. I want to use this version for replace the Pi Zero in my GamePI20.
I can't only replace the PiZero board, the OS do not start.
I have tried to install a Clean and New version from original image from RetroPie website (and from Raspberry Imager) and not have more success. I have tested the Rpi 1/0 version and the Rpi 2/3 version, no more result, I have only the "rainbow" at start and the system stop.
I have no problem with Raspbian, and can use old versions (like image for working with MHS35 display) without any problem.
I have also tested on 2 differents SD Card;
- Lexar 300X 64GB (Class 10)
- Sandisk Ultra 32GB (Class 10)
I want know how to run the Retropie "OS" without install Raspbian for the Raspberry Pi W version 2.
The best for me is a solution for Working with GAMEPI20, but, just start the Retropie on normal (without hat), after can try to install my MHS35 and start another console project.
I have tried to search on google and not really found answer to my questions (RPi0v2 are new and not have a lot of guide at this time).
Thank you in advance for help.
I have just found the GitHub page of Retropie, I try the install script on the latest Raspbian Lite.

The Pi Zero 2 requires the Pi 3 image, not the original Pi 0 image.

@levelkro use the rpi2/3 weekly image from https://files.retropie.org.uk/images/weekly/

Thank for answer.
Using the RPi 3 image of RetroPie do not work, but can install via Raspberry OS Lite and the setup_script. Now I try to run with GamePi20, and is not easy.First, the TFT driver is not up to date and can't work with latest kernel versions, but controller and hdmi out work fine. The alternative driver available on GitHub ( https://github.com/darrenliew96/gamepi20_drivers ) do not work for me.
I try the weekly update right now. Thank @BuZz

Ok, Weekly update work fine.
About GamePI20. The drivers do not like Retropie :P When I tried to install on the Weekly update, after the reboot, I got a Emulation Station crash notice.
Basically, I have only made the first part, creating the gamepi20.dtbo overlay in /boot/overlays and add a line about this one in /boot/config.txt . (from alternative driver)
I have contacted Waveshare about this, this is not a Retropie problem but an driver problem.
Thank for help, and if you known on use GamePI20 with the latest Zero v2, contact me :)

@levelkro
Hi, I am having same issue. I was unable to get LCD from gamepi20 running at all, not even with different distro.
If you got anything out from waveshare, would you mind to share it across?
Thanks.
