      Retropie 4.5.2
      Rasbian 9.4
      Retroarch 1.7.6

      I have been running 13 classic arcade games on this system since about 2018. We wanted to enable cheats on a few of the games. In going through Retroarch it is very confusing with the disappearing (not visible) menus and its been a few years so I needed to relearn from some notes I took.

      After I updated my cheats in Retroarch I was following some instructions to load the cheat files and I remember selecting some option but I can not find it or recall exactly what is was. I think it was something to do with loading cheats on start up.. n Also in my notes was loading a core to get the cream menu to show up so I am not sure if that was the cause of the issue.

      Now when I load a game, I am no longer prompted during the initialization to change the configuration (where you can select different emulators and such). The games load, then the screen goes blank and eventually comes back.

      I have tried resetting the defaults in retroarch, replacing the retroarch.cfg with the bak file. I tried updating retroarch. I guess I am looking to learn more about the loading cheats in retroarch to possibly undo this startup issue with my games

        Depending on which libretro core you use, when enabling cheats, your setting is probably stored as a core option in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg .

        Something like this (depending on which core) :

        mame_cheats_enable = "enabled"

        Try to set your, similar, line on "disabled" to disable the cheats.
