Crashing upon system selection

So I have looked through all the posts I could and can’t seem to find an answer to this specific problem. I’ve seen similar issues. But here it goes. I’m also a total newb to this stuff so please take it easy on me.
I was initially crashing right after emulationstation was done loading all the system and got the generic change theme back to carbon message I’ve seen posted about many times. So I changed the theme to carbon through command line. Now I’m able to get into the retropie console selection screen. But if I try to click anything from there it crashes. I checked my gpu split (which was also mentioned in that generic error message) and it’s set to 512.
If it’s relevant I’m trying to run nostalgia dreams reloaded. I have a raspi 4 with 4gb of ram. What do I do now? Thanks I’m advance for any help!

As stated in the rules 3rd party-images are not supported here.
You could either install the official image from here (then we can support you) or ask the nostalgia creators for help. -
