      Hey guys!

Been a couple of years since I last updated my RetroPie build - has this issue been fixed now?

      Thanks

I don't think so. I just reset with Select+B when that happens, usually goes away after a couple times.

@sad_muso there was an option you could tweak in Retroarch that fixed it so it never appeared again. Go to Settings, On screen display, on screen notifications and turn off graphic widgets. Worked for me. Let me know

@sleve_mcdichael do you know what graphic widgets do? And is there a problem turning them off?

@sad_muso This may not be ideal but I used overlays to fix the issue. For whatever reason the graphics don’t mess up when used. Reason being so is I use retro achievements and need widgets on.

They are what this topic is about: the little icons that pop up on your screen with information about something that just happened, like connecting a controller or fulfilling an achievement.

The problem with turning them off is that they won't be there anymore. No longer will the little icons pop up on your screen with information about something that just happened like connecting a controller or fulfilling an achievement.

If you're turning them off because you want them turned off, that's one thing entirely. But if you're turning them off because, sometimes, they look funny for a couple seconds at the very start of a game but you do actually want them on but you're just turning them off because they don't always work 100% correctly, well then... "cutting off your nose to spite your face" is a phrase that is used when a solution doesn't really "fix" anything, it merely changes the nature of the problem or covers it up with another equally-bad situation.

That doesn't mean you don't get notifications - you just have the old style (font-only) notifications, not the - new - widget based notifications.

The issue is when they do that, the screen gets stuck like that. In my experience the screen doesn't just flash and then go back to normal. You can't see the screen anywhere to the right of where the widget stopped. So how are you going to play a game when you can only see the left half of the screen?

I've only ever seen it when the game first launches, so it's not like I ever lose any progress to this or anything.
