lr-puae and keyboard input?

I've gotten NTSC and PAL support working beautifully with runcommand scripts and tvservice, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get keyboard input to work on WHDLoad images (which is so far the only thing I've tried).
When I load Pinball Dreams (for example), none of the function keys will select a table, even with Keyboard Pass-through turned on.
How do you get all keyboard keys to register in-game?

Self-answering...the solution, of course, is to turn on focus mode, something I'd never heard of before today. Live and learn. :)
