Battery Saves Not Functioning For Any Console
-
After perusing posts here and reddit I still can't fix my issue with "battery saves" not being generated on my setup.
Synopsis: Running a a fresh install of RetroPie. When playing games with battery saves e.g. Zelda (NES) or DKC (SNES), my system refuses to make ".sav"/".srm" file --or whatever it's supposed to do-- for games with "battery save" functionality. "save states" work on my setup, but I'll fixate on the rom specific "battery save" functionality until its fixed bc I'm just not good at "moving on". When I reset the game within the emulator the progress is "saves", however when exiting the emulator and returning, it is gone.
Soln's tried to no avail:
- Reset rom-folder permissions via retropie-config>tools>resetromfolders. All rom folders and roms have "drwxrwxr-x".
- Tried different emulators.
Questions:
- Do you know how to fix this?
- Are there emulator settings that may prevent/enable this?
- Are there retroarch settings that may prevent/enable this?
- Do the ".sav"/".srm" files exist as part of the rom i.e. are they intrinsic to the rom waiting to be wrote to or are they created by the emulator when/if there is a game data to store? I currently don't see any associated ".sav"/".srm" files with any roms.
- Is there a specific/correct way to exit a game after saving which enables this. Currently I use "hot key" plus "start" to exit games.
Thanks for your time and assistance!
Cheers! -

Update: Just tried Zelda on SNES and in-game save DOES work for that ROM also Super Mario on SNES does too.
Any idea on why do some roms would work and others not?

This whole issue ended up being a result of a bad rom and my forgetting how some of the other games saved e.g. check points. Updated rom and did some more troubleshooting and all is functioning as advertised.

@sigma47 glad you got it sorted out!

@sleve_mcdichael Thank you! Do you know, is there a proper way to close a thread around here? This is my first. I'd rather not delete it for the future benefit of those who, like myself, suffer from hyper-complexia, an illness where one instinctively jumps to complex solutions for simple problems.

@sigma47 Just modify the title and add
[solved]
to it.
