Emulationstation black screen on fullscreen autostart Ubuntu

EmulationStation does not start properly when autostarted in Ubuntu 21.10. When it is autostarted windowed it works though. Emulationstation does run, however, it only displays a black screen when autostarted in fullscreen, it still appears to receive input but is otherwise unusable. When closed, Ubuntu works as normal.

Can you add more info about your hardware ? Do you have multiple displays/video outputs enabled ? What is your desktop environment ?
