      Samba shares question:

Not a big deal but I would like to know. I for for reason cannot get samba shares to work for retropie. I do the //RETROPIE or //192.168.0.X and still can't connect to my pie. I'm on Windows 8.0.

I can use Bitvise, Filezilla and Winscp perfectly fine to transfer my roms. So whats the deal with Samba Shares? I can't figure it out. Thanks

Sorry I installed from image version 3.8.1 on Pi3 using Windisk 32. SSH works fine.

Please do sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade from a terminal on the rpi - then reboot, and see if that makes a difference.

Worth confirming the IP address also. Do you have any outbound firewall enabled on the windows machine ?

From Windows, have you tried \\retropie ?? The slashes are the other way round on Windows from Linux? :-)

Well I did what Buzz said in terminal and still don't work. But I just seen the // and lol I think you may be right I will try \ instead of //. I bet it was that. Cause I use Linux as well and would have never thought of that. Thanks guys appreciate all the help.

can you ping the hostname? I guess you know the IP, so if you're client is windows (windows 8 you mentioned) it we definately be \hostname or \ipaddress

                              What is the error?

Yes I can ping the host name and it returns OK. My Pi's IP is 192.168.0.16. It says Unknown Error and gives an error code # when I try to connect with \\RETROPIE or \\192.168.0.16

                                  "#" is the error code?

Make sure "Client for Microsoft Networks" is enabled on your network adaptor. If this is there and you've disabled secure negotiate, I have no idea sorry. Every time I've seen this it's secure negotiate option.

Did you reboot after changing the secure negotiate setting?
