UPDATE 2: one step further in detecting the issue:
it is my controller!
Amiberry (5.1) runs superb as far as no gamepad is comnected.
As soon as i connect one of them (8BitDo SF30 Pro) i have this problem again: mouse appears -> system freezes. So Amiberry 5.1 seems to dislike my pads, they worked great with 3.x. :/
EDIT: checked the old SD-Card / first try of 5.1 too: does also work without the gamepad connected.
looks like another configs files makes problems.

@ZzackK it is a fresh install of Retropie 4.8 and Amiberry 5 1 on a brand new SD-Card i bought yesterday just to get Amiberry working again.
There is no old data on this setup, neither anything else or other tweaks/changes on the system.
Pure Retropie and Amiberry out of the box:/The Pads are updated to the latest Firmware and work with 16 cores, even SCUMMVM (non-lr) and DosBox, since years.

Turn on logging from the configuration screen and post the log file on pastebin.com.

@mitu i allready tried that, but the file was empty.
I fear this happens because the system freezes before it writes the log.
As mentioned i have to pull the plug and after a new power on there is no log :/ -
If you have SSH enabled, try looking at the file while Amiberry is started. You can probably also stop the emulator using
kill
/killall
, so you don't have to reboot the system. -
@mitu i never activated SSH as i have no PC at all. From the beginning i use my Android Smartphone via local network and a File Commander to feed my Pi with data. Is there anything i can use from there?
-
@sirhenrythe5th Set the log file to
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/amiberry.log
and you can access it via file shares, like any other rom folder. For the commands, you'll need SSH - I think there are some SSH apps in the app store that may be usable. -
@mitu thank you very much sir, i will try that!

The difference: instead of a black screen amiberry stucks with the runcommand window displayed and the amiga mousecursor on the top left.
I also can only switch off the Pi :/Any solution to this freez-Problem?
I have the exact same problem on my raspberry pi 4. I have a new fresh retropie 4.8 Image on my sdcard and install only Amiberry 5.2 from binary an i have only a keyboard plugged in. If i press start in the amiberry-ui or start a game direct, it freez on the runcommand Window with a mousecursor on the top left.
I try this with only a xbox 360 Controller plugged in too, but the same behavior. So i think its not a problem with the inputdevice? With the old amiberry version 3.x on my old image i have no problems like this.

@loxlay i did not find a complete solution.
In my case it seemed to be issues with the BT-connection of my pads.
So i use amiberry with wired pads only.
I still dont know what causes the issue but as your problems seem to have other reasons than the Inputs i will keep an eye on this thread, maybe the suggestion from other users for you will help me too. -
I have just setup Retropie 4.8 and Amiberry 5.3 on my Pistation and I am having the same freezing issue.
I have an 8bitdo pro 2 controller setup on bluetooth. When I start an Amiga game it freezes on the run command with the mouse cursor appearing in the top left.
I have renamed the amiberry and emulator config files and reinstalled amiberry with no luck.
I may try a complete reimage of retropie and install amiberry then see how that goes.
No solution yet though

@Jimi007 it seems to be a very annoying issue only concerning the 8Bit-Do-Pads when used with Amiberry since v5.x.
I can confirm Mitus idea of using other pads, no 8BitDo = no freeze/no issues.I guess we cannot do anything at this point but wait for a further update of Amiberry with this entry in the changelog:
- v5.4: fixed freeze and other random issues when launching amiberry with 8BitDO-Pads connected.
