Hello everyone! I'm currently playing a text-based game on my raspberry pi using the ZX Spectrum emulator fuze. I can type text no problem and so far have been having fun playing the game. However, an answer I need to give in the game requires me to type a period, but I can't get it to work and I'm not sure what to do. I never had a ZX Spectrum (I live in the US), so pretty much all of this is brand new. Thanks in advance :).

@Waylander-0 I had similar issues when playing Lotr text game. Try changing the controls type in Retroarch so maybe try the Kempston Keyboard option and see if that works. The Spectrum controls on the Pi are never straight forward with a different choice needed for each game sometimes

@hawkes_84 Thanks for the reply! There wasn't a Kempston Keyboard option, just a Sinclair Keyboard. However there was a Kempston controller option. Changing to that let me pull up the keyboard on my controller via the Select button. From there, I think I see what I need to do, I just can't make it happen. I see the period on the same key as the M button, and it looks like I need to do "Symbol Shift" before I hit that key so I can get the period. Unfortunately no matter what I do, I can't seem to set the Symbol Shift on the controller. Any other ideas? At least I'm making progress :).

@Waylander-0 sorry dude. It's one of them where I'd have to be looking at what you're seeing to give you any kind of intelligent advice I'm afraid. May I ask which txt adventure game you're playing so I could try it for myself?

@hawkes_84 I got it! I think I did it in a less than optimal way, but what I did works. In the Fuse settings, I set by L2 and R2 buttons to Symbol Shift and M, respectively (mapping to the other buttons on the controller causes some typing problems on the keyboard). I suspect there is a way to make this work on the keyboard, which is probably the best way, but I haven't had any luck with that. Thankfully this works well enough to do what I need.

@Waylander-0 nice work. There's always a work around and it's never perfect. Is the game good?

@hawkes_84 It isn't too bad. I never had a ZX Spectrum back in the day (I'm from the US), and I also didn't have a computer to have the chance to play the old text-based adventure games. I'm playing this game because it is based off of the first book from my favorite author David Gemmell. I tried this game out via another emulator years ago but didn't really do much. Now, I've decided to play the game all the way through :).
