Is something wrong with the X68k emulator? Won't install
-
I have a RasPi3 I haven't touched in nearly a year. My plan is to load it with games to send to my friend. I took the SD card out and loaded it with the various roms. My plan was to run an update and install necessary emulators. So I plugged it in this morning and it couldn't get an IP address. I have wifi, but I prefer to use a hard-wired ethernet connection. It wouldn't work. I tinkered with the wifi region setting (I live in Japan) and after that I was able to get an IP, but trying to access the settings just gave me a bunch of text and spit me back to the menu.
Out of frustration, I reformatted the SD card and reinstalled RetroPie 4.8 (release 2022/3/14) via the Raspberry Pi imager software for Linux. Everything was fresh and seemed to work, but when I configured the gamepad, it crashed. Said something about if this was my first time installing it, check the version. Well, I chose the 2/3/Zero option, so there should be no problem. Dunno why that didn't work. I rebooted and it seemed to work fine. Weird?
On to emulator installations. WonderSwan worked. PC-FX worked. But the X68000 (lr-px68k) starts to install, spits out the text as it is installing, but then it just seems to hang. Is there a problem with the emulator image it's grabbing?
I did not have these errors the first time I installed RetroPie. Actually since then, I installed RetroPie onto my Linux Mint desktop and I have used it from there since then. I dunno why I'm having problems with my old Pi3 with the IP address being "unknown" and these installation errors since then. My home network hasn't changed and my Pi3 has been in a box ever since I got a Pi4 a year ago. Not sure why I'm encountering such feldercarb with my old unit. (My Pi4 is just running Raspberry OS for the time being, in case you were wondering.)

this is an experimental core so it will build from source. this can take a long time (hours for some emulators). you need to wait. it's not an error unless it specifically says it failed to build (in which case it points you to the error log that you can post here)

@dankcushions Huh. Well, if you say so. I didn't have to wait so long the first time I installed it on my Pi3, nor my desktop. I'll give it another try then. Thanks. Any idea why the joypad calibration crashed?

@stevethefish76 what you're describing there doesn't sound like a crash to me, but without the full error message and all the other stuff in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first i can't really diagnose.
but if it works now i'm not sure there's much utility in doing any of that :)
