Where Mesen has received multiple updates is it now better then stock fceumm? I have been running games through it recently and I find they look better.

@Refazeshot1 Looks better in what way? The emulators probably have different palette defaults. You can change those to your liking.

Not sure if that's what you are asking about, but Mesen has been the best nes emulator in terms of accuracy ever since it was released, there was never a time where fceumm surpassed it.
Assuming you want to play a game as it was on the real console, you should never use another emulator if Mesen can run that game at full speed on your device.

@barbudreadmon For a brief time, Mesen still had visual bugs with Holy Diver while Fceumm fixed those bugs years ago. Mesen is a newer emulator but it happens. I personally couldn't find a visual or audio difference with the games I usually play. I don't remember the games Mesen played accurately (Micromachines?) but I don't believe I'll ever play them.

@Darksavior nes accuracy is measured through various tools to verify correct ppu/cpu/apu operation and proper support with the most popular nes mappers, support for obscure mappers isn't accounted during those tests tbh.
Mesen probably had missing/broken support for that mapper 078 used in 2 games (Holy Diver and Uchuusen - Cosmo Carrier) at the time of its release.
Afaik Mesen is the only emulator getting 100% at those tests, nestopia is around 80%, quicknes is around 70%, fceumm is only around 50% and the least accurate nes emulator available on retropie.
I don't know if there is any nes emulator with 100% mapper compatibility, there are several hundreds of them and they all need to be coded separately.
