Why doesn't adding -image to an image file instantly show up in Emulation Station anymore?
-
Ever since I upgraded to the new version of Emulation Station I've noticed that adding
-image to an image file that I have in my /images folder no longer automatically and instantly shows up for a rom of the same name.For example, if I have a rom in my /nes folder:
gunnac.nes
and I have not scraped it or have done anything with it, and then I drop the file:
gunnac-image.png
into my /nes/images folder the image I dropped in there used to automatically show up for that game in Emulation Station.
This would be super handy for games that didn't have an image file associated with it in any scraper.
Ever since the newest released of ES, that doesn't seem to work anymore.
Anyone know why or how to fix this? Or is it just a feature that seems to be dead and gone?
Thanks in advance.

@TPR You need to enable
search for local art
in EmulationStation settings. It's disabled by default as it affects performance. -
@BuZz Thanks! I'll give that a try.
Was it enabled by default before? I've never touched that and it's always worked for me.
-
@BuZz That didn't solve the issue.
So what could it be? I've never had this problem before I installed the new version of ES. I have probably dropped about 500 -image.png files into my /images folder on my build across several different consoles without ever having a problem and those images just automatically appeared just fine.
But now they don't.
Any idea how to fix this?
EDIT: What's also weird is that the images I've previously dropped into my /images folder do still appear, but any new ones do not.

So I just figured it out...
Looks like it still works, but with this latest version of Emulation Station it is no longer "instant" that the image will appear.
I dropped the -image.png file for another game just now, reset ES, and then it appeared.
So what change was made that it went from the image showing up without having to restart ES to now having to reset in order for that to happen? That was a fantastic feature before being able to see the artwork in the menu as soon as you dropped it into the /images folder. Now it takes much longer to see the iteration.
Also, the image is showing up with "Search For Local Art" set to "OFF" so I don't believe that above advice was accurate. I've never touched that setting on my build before so I don't think that was the reason why those images were showing up.

@TPR previously it wasnt an option but enabled by default. However it caused performance issues so it was made into an option and disabled by default.

Please take note that you can use jpg format in addition to png.
At least I've been using a mixture of png and jpg images :)
