      Hello,

I've been switching back and forth between vice and lr-vice for a couple of weeks trying to get either emulator to recognize and/or be able to map a keyboard and controller.

      I am working with:

      ---a Pi 4, 64 I think
---a wireless USB Xbox 360 clone controller
      ---a wireless USB keyboard
---the Retropie OS, updated last about a week ago
Other details about my setup available upon request

I understand that there's at least a decade's worth of games covering a wide range in terms of programming, technology available at the time, etc and I understand the C64 may look for the game controller under Port 1 or Port 2 depending on the game.

For the one game I'm trying to start with it's Mail Order Monsters, sticking to that and a few other games, trying to get the keyboard and controller working but it I can get both to work with just this one game, consistently, that's a start.

Using the vice emulator I've had some success with getting the controller and keyboard to work---when I don't try to map anything and swap the ports I'm able to use the right hat/joystick and the "y" (yellow, topmost of four) button. Trying to map for either the d-pad or left joystick (more ergonomic than doing everything with the right one) and re-map the firing button seems to either not successfully re-map the controller (it uses the default mapping anyway) or the controller is completely unresponsive.

I read about lr-vice that it's easier to work with so I tried switching to it as the default for C64 games and I can't get a response out of the controller or the keyboard now. Since lr-vice is dependent on RetroArch I went into the settings for that and tried to map the controller and set default ports for the keyboard and controller but this has no effect.

The controller works for every other emulator I use it with but not for lr-vice/vice/C64 games. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)
