[RESOLVED] MAME menu appearing during Arcade gameplay

Hello. I’ve modded my arcade 1up cabinet with a raspberry pi4 running retropie. All going well but cannot get the Mame games to work as when I press joystick down and Button 1 (x) the Mame menu appears (as photo). It must be triggering a hot key. As I have no keyboard attached am unable to enter any of the menu options so just want to disable the menu and/or hotkey.
I’ve tried everything to disable the menu (including via retroarch config) but to no avail. Can anyone help as this is driving me up the wall?

@tuatara75 to revert to defaults, delete the default.cfg file as per https://retropie.org.uk/docs/lr-mame2003/#mame-menu
