Jzintv Poor Performance
-
Hello, I have a raspberry pi 3b+ running retropie 4.8 and I am having performance issues with Jzintv. First of all, the resolution seems to be an issue. When I moved to 4.8, I noticed the run command had changed in the emulators.cfg. Used to use -z1 to set the resolution -f1 for full screen. I cannot recall what I used in that setting but I think it was the lowest setting. Whatever it was, Jzintv did stretch the image to fill the screen. Now it is a postage stamp size image in the middle of the TV. However, if I bump the resolution up by either specifying the resolution or using one of the predefined resolutions, it seems like it causes frame skips and stuttering. It does not happen at the lowest resolution but then it is too small to play. The stock emulator config tries to run at 1920 x 1080 and that stretches the image out from 4:3. At some point jzintv changed from sdl1 to sdl2. Not sure if that is the issue or not. Anyone else having this issue?

@gpmcty welcome to the club. At least the stretching was discussed and solved in that thread/post
After applying the fix: Try to set the lowest 16:9 resolution in the runcommand menu, Does this make a difference in performance?
Note that the fix uses slightly different options. They should also be logged to
/dev/shm/runcommand.log
and can be verified withcat /dev/shm/runcommand.log
on the Pi's command line. -
@gpmcty hi. I originally posted your exact problem and I highly suggest following that thread which corrected it. Lolonios did an outstanding job of fixing the problem with his "version" of JzIntv.
I hope at some point that becomes the download version, instead of having to apply this patch. JzIntv is not really supported anymore.
