Why it’s getting harder to play your old favourite games
-
I thought this was an interesting article on playing games that are no longer commercially available.
https://www.theguardian.com/games/2023/jul/12/pushing-buttons-playing-old-video-gamesPersonally, whilst emulation may not be as accurate as original hardware or the FPGA approach, I think its as near as damnit, and good enough for me. I'm more bothered about the visuals looking as they used to, i.e. with scanlines and the 'proper' aspect ratio etc...
Although as I love the megadrive I do have the Analogue Mega Sg which is great paired with a Krikkzz everdrive. It also talks about collecting, I used to have quite a few Neo Geo AES carts, but they are long sold - now I'm more about picking up the missing JPN megadrive carts that I dont have - its easier playing roms on emulated platforms, but the physical box and cartridge is a great memory of playing them years ago. Need a nice snazzy display case now :)
And for those in the UK, this looks like the next big retro event to get your hands on the old equipment - October 2023:
