Pi model or other hardware: PC
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.8.4
Built From: On top of pre-exsisting OS (followed this https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Debian/
      USB Devices connected: https://pastebin.com/0Nk1w6Ej
Controller used: 8BitDo Ultimate C 2.4G Wireless Controller (just got it, problem in wired and wireless mode.
      Error messages received: none
To replicate: enter game select menu, scroll in between consoles a bit, then it happens

      retroarch.cfg: https://pastebin.com/Gt92pbYk

While im in the menu after selecting a console, you can scroll in between the different consoles. This error only appears during that. Occasionally, theirs random sporadic moments that i cant control.

I don't know about your specific controller. I have similar behavior with a cheap NES style buffalo wired controller. Essentially, the controller emitted ghost button presses picked up in emulationstation that generally were not an issue within games. I suppose you could fire up one of the CLI based joystick debugging tools, and see if ghost presses seem to be a thing with your controller. I purchased another set of cheap USB controllers (not buffalo) and the issue didn't exist with those.

Had the same problem with my iBuffalo controllers as well.

It's been quite some time but you should find the answers somewhere in here:

@Addison Does that work with a x86 computer or just the pi?

Oh man, it's been so long ago I can't remember what I did back then.

I didn't purchase a USB Hub or solder anything, I know that much.

I still use the wired controllers on my Pi 4 since they're wonderful.

I do have the default Wi-Fi disabled and bought these instead for 8x faster speed:

Don't think I can be of any help except for posting that first link I shared.
