I have a Raspberry Pi 4 (bought the full kit with metal case and fan) and I am able to have it run (depending on which SD card I have loaded) Raspberry OS (Raspian?) or Ubuntu (the latter obviously slower, but usable). I did the most recent update when requested. I bought the full kit, in a metal case and fan. (Case remains relatively cool the the touch the entire time).

I wanted to use this to run some retro games and followed the advice20230907_225910 (1).jpg to just buy an SD card from Amazpn with a ton of games already loaded ($60)

I booted with the pre-loaded game card in place and it went through a long checklist of things it was checking. (This seemed much longer than even the time to boot up off the Ubuntu SD card.) The RetroPie logo showed up briefly and then another flurry of items to be checked. I got to the point where it said I had to sudo raspi-config and I entered as best I could some things like localization (this list really needs some work to be less dense, a bit more graphical perhaps?). I believe I answered the questions correctly and booted up again. Once again, a long checklist, logo, more checklist items, but then I get THIS error message and I have no clue what it wants me to correct. See the screenshot below:

Do you know what this means? What does the system WANTS me to do and how to comply? I am at the prompt and have NO idea what I should enter to move forward. Please advise. TIA.

Really, all I wanted was to be able to put in the ROM-SD with all the games, have a quick boot, and start playing. (Well, I figure there is going to be a hurdle to get the XBox controller I already had to work. It doesn't have USB capabilities on its own; only being "keyed" to XBox 360, but I was aware of this limitation and already purchased a thumbdrive which is supposed to let the Raspberry communicate with the controller. But that's a battle to be fought later!)

First things first. Any assistance on a path forward when I'm sitting at this prompt (and WHY I got here) would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

@vmkamhi 3rd party images aren't supported here. Nobody knows what the configurations are and how to solve so called problematic 3rd party images. You should start from scratch with the official Retropie image and transfer over all the games from your current card to the new fresh image.
