      Raspberry Pi3 Model B+ using official Pi power supply.
      Haven't used my RetroPi for a bit, so I can't say which version of RetroPi was installed.
      I wanted to install a new controller, so I used the RetroPi menu. RetroPi Setup, Manage Packages.
      The blue square menu appeared on the screen but told me that RetroPi needed to be updated, and so I tried to do that via the menu.
      Lots of scrolling text on the screen: too fast to read, but obviously something wasn't found (404 errors).
      I don't know any Linux, but I tried sudo apt-get udate without success.
      Now none of the RetroPi menu options are working; they all seem to try the same download, and get the 404 error and then the menu reappears.
      I suppose I could make a new build of RetroPi and copy all the roms etc across, but I'm wondering if it's salvageable without having to do this? And if so, what commands do I need to use from the shell?

        Without knowing which version you had before the update, it's not possible.

          @mitu thanks.
          I managed to find the original RetroPi download files on my laptop. It was version 4.2. Installed in 2021.

            RetroPie 4.2 was released in 2017, so even in 2021 you were using an out-of-date version. My advice is to install from scratch using the current release and transfer your ROM/BIOS folders over to the new installation.
