8Bitdo Ultimate C 2.4g Wireless Controller = good choice for RetroPie 4B/8 Gig??
-
Retropie 4B/8gig/ran update and upgrade to most recent everything.
I understand it's a matter of style and preference when it comes to controllers for RetroPie. That being said, after determining that my IR-based X360 Box controller won't work with RetroPie, even after buying a dongle for that purpose, I need to try something else. (Somebody already pointed out that the dongle is advertised for the Xbox X/S series, NOT the XBox360. My bad!)
So, now I need to move to "Plan B". After checking around, I am leaning towards this one: 8Bitdo Ultimate C 2.4g Wireless Controller for Windows PC, Android, Steam Deck & Raspberry Pi ($30 from Amazon). It looks like it includes a dongle and is 2.4 G instead of Bluetooth (from what I can tell from the 8BitDo site). And it appears that 2.4 G might have an advantage with latency, but I don't know what its downside is vis-a-vis Bluetooth (I have to assume Bluetooth has some advantage(s) which offset longer latency).
Again, while a matter of style, I kinda like that it seems to MOSTLY mirror an XBox controller layout/format.
Anyway, what I REALLY want is for whatever controller I purchase to be as close as possible to REAL "plug&play". Yes, I know part of RetroPie is hobbyist, but I prefer more of the hobby to just play the games and less hobby spending a long time with multiple Linux command prompts just to get it to work! In other words, basically just plug in the dongle, type EmulationStation, have it say it "sees" one controller on the splash screen, do some keymapping as necessary, and then GO PLAY! (Little, if any, "massaging" to work!)
Allowing for preference of controller differences in layout and "feel", would the 8Bitdo Ultimate C 2.4g Wireless Controller fit the bill as I described my desires? Any suggestions or (especially!) actual experience would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
