Raspberry Pi 5 - official announcement

@miremi I need to reinstall but yes, relatviely straight forward starting AetherSx2 from emulationstation/retropie.
its the getting out again that's the hard part..
-
@mechafatnick do you start aethersx2 without GUI? Then you can just go into the menu with a hotkey combo you've chosen and exit that way:-
For example mine is this, just add the -nogui onto your emulator.cfg configuration
aethersx2 = "XINIT-WM:/opt/retropie/emulators/aethersx2/AetherSX2-v1.5-3606/usr/bin/aethersx2 -nogui %ROM%"

@Rockofan96
I'm honestly hoping it can run Amiga 32/CD games,
Better Sega System 32 Support
Maybe Jaguar and 3D0 SupportTLDR - I already own almost every console, and have gone out of my way to install ODEs on all the disc based systems to preserve my games and expand my library.
(I did own the Jag, and 3D0, but felt they weren't worth keeping around with their limited output capabilities Never owned the CDI or Neo Geo)I mostly use my PI for a older PC/Arcade emulation machine.
Though I could never figure out how to get Commodore 64, Amiga and DOS games to work correctly.
I did have a lot of luck with Mame, and FB neo save for the System 32 and a few other games support.I had a PI 3 B+ and Pi 4 8gb, now I have a 5 fully built and ready to go with a 1TB SD card slotted in.
I hope it can handle said games with little issue, and maybe even something like Carnevil.. but that's probably a pipe dream -

9 days agoSo i got AetherSX2 working on raspberry pi 5 with raspberry pi os
Any special notes on getting this to work with Raspberry Pi OS, or is it fairly straightforward at this point?
-
@roslof I wrote a quick script on RetroPie Extras, although I think it doesn't point to the bios folder correctly. And you need to use the kernel8.img as well for it to load. And add in some decent hotkeys, pointing to the SDL controllers with start+back button combos
-
@retropieuser555 Thanks. What games can one realistically run on the Pi5 without (meaningful) slowdown? Most PS2 games I have in mind are 3D ones, so I'd imagine they'd struggle.
-
Will try tomorrow your tip
-
@roslof
I used this video tutorial:
-
@pjft I'll provide make a list similar to that gamecube/dolphin thread. But a good yardstick is anything in the high GPU or high CPU PSCX2 threads are unlikely to work.
But so far I've found quite a fair few work pretty well, although I didn't own a PS2 back in the day so I'm not sure how accurate some of the emulation may or may not be
-
@retropieuser555 AetherSX2 installed fine for me (and yes, I did remove the "bios" folder and created a symlink that points to ~/RetroPie/BIOS/ps2 and popped the bios files in there.
Other than audio (which is silent for me) everything seems to be working fine, and I was even able to map a gamepad chord to exit.
Is audio working for you, and if so, was there anything special you needed to do to enable it?
-
@roslof I think I needed to install Pulse Audio and then it started working
-
Amazing thank you so much! I should have checked if there was a nogui flag!
-
@Jiryn That’s cool. I’m hoping it can run sega Saturn games better. But I’m also hoping to run some games I couldn’t run before on the pi 3 and 4. These games include CarnEvil, Killer instinct 1 and 2 for the arcade, Killer instinct gold for N64, and others. Not to mention, I’m hoping it runs windows 98 a little better while running the dosboxpure core. As for the ps2, and GameCube games, I’m planning to download it so I can play some mods.
-
@Rockofan96 I still have those systems, ODE modded.
But I fully agree with your games, Killer Instinct 1 and 2m CarnEval, stuff from the mid 90s would be awesome.
Not sure about N64 games. -

Nice! Let me know when you have something testable, than for me it’s ok to buy a pi5 and test
