I have built a bartop arcade using a pi 4b 2gb board and the latest retropie 4.8. running 2 usb encoder controls, a bluetooth keyboard and a non recoil sinden lightgun.

I apologise if this is in the wrong section.

First off I would like to thank all the community who have helped me in the past, I have been housebound for the last year due to long covid 19 effects, the project has helped me a lot and I am now through all your support able to run my favourite games.

Having seen the specs for the pi 5 I would be interested in if the retropie project will support the pi 5 board if possible via something like a migrate feature for the sd card, maybe to a nvme 2 card (if possible).

I have a 1060 super gfx card that I can connect to this setup and would like to look at being able to run games more powerful then the dreamcast console within realms of possibility for this system.

Another aspect I am curious if this is able to incorporate would be the MFME fruit machine games or I am better at looking at a different operating system, though in that case I would dual boot?

I understand this might be too early to ask these sorts of questions but I like to try and be first on the bandwagon.

      Thanks Guys

We do intend on supporting the upcoming Pi 5, but migration will be the same as it is now - you can copy your games/configs/BIOS files to the new system. The new Pi5 needs a new OS and upgrading in place is not supported.

I don't think that will work, for various reasons (but mostly for the lack of a proper driver). See https://pipci.jeffgeerling.com/ for someone that tested various PCI cards with a Pi4. I know they tried to do the same with the Pi5, but weren't more succesful until now.

Since MFME is Windows only, it won't work out-of-the-box with an ARM based Linux system. In theory, it might work using Wine + Box86.

@mitu I watched Jeff's video on the Pi5 and it looked to me like he could not get any PCI graphics card to work (yet) with the Pi5.

Hence my saying but weren't more succesful until now, having in mind that Pi5 support in Linux kernel is still early and things could change later on.
