PPSSPP 1.16.6 - Wrong default resolution.

RPi4
Official psu
RetroPie 4.5.8 (from rpi imager +latest updates)
emulator : ppsspp 1.16.6In the latest update of ppsspp, the default rendering resolution is set to 2XPSP, this have huge impact to the performance. It's something that you can adjust easily from the menu but, maybe confuse new users that aren't familiar with configuring. Thanks.

Is this on an empty/new install or upgrading from a previous version ?
-
@mitu It's from upgrade. I can test it to new install from Buster lite to be sure.

It's from upgrade.
I'll check, but as far as I remember this is not a new setting - it existed in the previous versions also.

From some old topics that i found, i believe that i am wrong, the default was 2x . If this is correct then the newer version have significant lower performance in the RPi4. Someone already report this in the emulator github page.
-
I've checked and the default of 2x for the internal resolution has been in place for a long time - but it's only selected if the display's resolution is large enough (>1000px height or width), otherwise it's set to Auto. If you have a 1080p display, the default will be indeed 2x.
Someone already report this in the emulator github page.
I've seen the issue, though it's opened for to the libretro core, I'm not sure if the poster has tested the standalone emulator also.

Thanks for looking into this ! That's why I saw 2x then, before I didn't use 1080p resolution. I will change back to 720p or use 1x. I didn't know that ppsspp changes this depending on the resolution of the TV, sorry for the inconvenience!

That should happen only for the 1st time, when there's no existing configuration. User choice will be saved and not overwritten on subsequent runs.
I've briefly tested one of the games from the PPSSPP issue and it runs horribly, indeed, even using the Vulkan video driver (that's on the bookworm system I'm testing RetroPie changes). Maybe it's not GPU related, but something else. I'll check if the previous 1.15.x versions have better performance.
-
Thanks to confirm the bad performance, i will try to collect some logs, if it is possible and i will add them in the ppsspp github.

Just a note: 2X is the default resolution for PPSSPP in the source code. I built it from source recently, and that's the resolution that comes up the first time it's booted.
So, this is not a Retropie specific problem. It's the default for the application. Whether Retropie wants to override the default I'm not sure. Personally I think that 2X with frame skip is way more enjoyable than 1X without frame skip. But that is of course personal preference.
Also, with the Raspberry Pi 5 the default of 2X should run great. Though I won't know until my board gets here.
Cheers.
