Hello again! I'm trying to configure the Game Boy, NES, and SNES retroarch configs for a usb keyboard. Does anyone have a cheat sheet of all of the needed values for those emulators and the keyboard's keys' values? Or a cheat sheet that is like a fill in the blank that I could copy onto the corresponding config file and enter my keyboard values? Basically, I need to know what the blank is in [blank] = "my custom keyboard key". Any help would be appreciated!

Just configure the keyboard as you'd configure a gamepad in EmulationStation and RetroArch will also work - there's no need to manually copy/configure RetroArch.

@mitu Thanks for the tip! Where in the settings would I do that?

https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Controller-Configuration/, If you don't get the dialog on start, then open the EmulationStation menu and choose 'Configure Input'.

@mitu I already did that. Those settings are only working for me in the Emulation Station GUI. Different controls work in MAME, but nothing responds in Game Boy, NES, or SNES.

@CobraDesign47 Did you delete the es_input.cfg configuration file while attempting to re-configure your gamepad/keyboard ?

Please add some info about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

@mitu Where would I find that file, so I can check if I deleted it?

The question wasn't is it there, it was did you delete it. Even if it's there now, it might have been deleted at one point and come back "wrong" like in Pet Sematary. I think you can fix it if you update or reinstall emulationstation through the RetroPie-Setup script. (you don't have to reinstall, looks like you can just "clear ES input configuration" in the "configuration and tools" section of the setup script, and this will fix it also. Then re-configure your keyboard one more time and see if it works in games then, too.)

@sleve_mcdichael Hello! That didn't work. I cleared the ES input configuration, but nothing changed. The controls that you configure on start up are supposed to work in all emulators, right? The only emulator that I have tried that works is MAME, and MAME doesn't respond to my configured controls, it responds to its own controls that happen to be adapted for a keyboard. The only controls that I didn't configure are the right and left analog sticks. Would that be a problem?

I've been poking around, and I noticed that there is no cores in Retroarch. Would that be a problem?

Not if you're using a RetroPie image.

Hello! I realised that maybe you guys are assuming that my usb keyboard is a gaming keyboard. It isn't. I think I'll have to buy an actual video game controller eventually. Thanks anyway for your guys' help!
