Pi3B - Unable to control volume through Tv - Bullseye 4.8.5
-
Hi all, was wondering if anyone knew how to fix an issue with the sound on the latest weekly 4.8.5 image - Pi 3B.
Initially had issues with the sound not working at all but then managed to get it working by setting emulation station to PCM and then HDMI through the main Retropie settings. This was a whole issue in and of itself and every time I went to emulation it is stuck on 0, still is despite now giving out sound.
The issue I’m having now is that the although the sound comes through the tv, changing the volume on the TV makes no difference at all to the volume levels themselves. Had the same issue a while back with Batocera also having similar kinds of audio issues and when it did decide to work it was the same issue where it seems volume can’t be controlled by the TV in the usual way.
I don’t suppose anyone has come across this issue before and if there’s a way to fix? Any help greatly appreciated.
As a side note this is more of a test image on a spare SD card and have a separate SD with the latest official images and updated installed with none of these sound issues at all. Was more curious to see if the latest Bullseye image offered any improvements on performance.

Did you try with a different Hdmi cable ? Low volume it's not a common issue for RetroPie, except that you have change the volume level in the AlsaMixer or in the Emulationstation.
As for the no sound, the only thing you have to do was to change from RetroPie => Audio the sound to HDMI and then, restart the emulationstation.

Tried 2 different HDMI cables and same cable works perfectly with the main 4.8 version I’ve got on a 2nd SD card. These issues seem to be with the bullseye beta images but don’t think it’s a RetroPie problem as Batocera had the exact same issues on their newest versions for the Pi3B.
