No Click in Mario Paint

I have tried two different devices, a trackball and a mouse. I can get the cursor to move, but no buttons or clicking seem to work. Any advice?
Tried searching but only found posts on how to switch to SNES mouse, no troubleshooting for click not working.
I’m using snes9x on a RPi 4 8G running latest versions of everything as of Mar 27, 2024.

With the
lr-snes9x2010core, mouse (a cheap usb) is working, click and movements, after i change controls to snes mouse from retroarch menu.If you can, try with this emulator.
