RetroPie asking for login after installing desktop environment to configure Dolphin....

But you don't need desktop environment for pi 5 for standalone dolphin, it already works fine installing it from retropie-setup experimental.
Maybe this is my problem then. How do I get to retropie-setup experimental? I'm just using the manual retropie-setup script to install on my Pi 5. The standalone version of dolphin needed me to run the gui version of dolphin-emu to configure my controller.
What is the way I should be doing this instead? Thank you for your help
EDIT: Nevermind, I realize now you meant the exp section of retropie-setup. I thought for a second you were talking about a different experimental fork version of retropie-setup! lol
How did your get your controllers configured in the stand alone version of dolphin without doing it through the gui version? These are the steps I had to follow:

@TPR You have to follow this instructions :
1.Update RetroPie-Setup script.
2.Install Dolphin emulator from experimental packages.
3.Add to this file:/opt/retropie/configs/gc/emulators.cfg
this line:
dolphin-editor = "XINIT-WMC:/opt/retropie/emulators/dolphin/bin/dolphin-emu"
In the end, the file it will be like this:
dolphin = "XINIT-WM:/opt/retropie/emulators/dolphin/bin/dolphin-emu-nogui -e %ROM%" dolphin-gui = "XINIT-WM:/opt/retropie/emulators/dolphin/bin/dolphin-emu -b -e %ROM%" dolphin-editor = "XINIT-WMC:/opt/retropie/emulators/dolphin/bin/dolphin-emu" default = "dolphin-gui"
press ctrl+o and ctrl+x to save the changes
Start a game and choose from runcommand menu the dolphin-editor. This will open Dolphin menu, where we can change the parameters of the emulator and configure the controller(important).

@abj Fantastic! I'll try that right now!

@abj Thank you! That worked perfectly!
Do you have any basic tweaks or suggestions to any of the core options to get the most out of either the standalone Dolphin or lr-dolphin?

@TPR
Check Dolphin compatibility page: https://el.dolphin-emu.org/compat/?cr=el , it have some things that you can try if a game doesn't run well but don't except miracles, PI 5 is not the right hardware for the Dolphin.Check and this topIc :, https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/35203/dolphin-gamecube-wiiware-wii-compatibility-on-pi-5/19 and add your findings In the list.

Yep! That much I kind of figured out already! lol Just nice to see a few things up and running and hopefully thing will improve.
Thanks for your help and suggestions. I'll look at those other topics as well.

@abj I've also noticed a weird behavior since I've installed and configed the stand alone dolphin that lr-dolphin now has issue? I can launch a game with lr-dolphin but if I try to exit out the game hard crashes and I have to shut down the Pi.
I didn't have that problem before installing the stand alone. Have you noticed anything like this?
-
@TPR I also had issues with lr-dolphin , with freezes and hangs before I installed the standalone dolphin, so I don't think they are related. The development of the lr-dolphin core is halted the last years..

I installed the desktop environment of Raspbian last night as I needed to set up the Dolphin stand alone emulator for the Pi 5 ...
How exactly did you do that ? If you install the desktop from RetroPie-Setup, it does exactly the opposite - enables autologin and autostarts EmulationStation (which probably shouldn't do by default..).

@mitu I followed the exact steps here:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/35355/unable-to-set-control-mapping-in-dolphin-dolphin-emu-not-loading/8?_=1714924854335and it all worked but I was left with that login screen.
I reverted back to my SD card backup just before I did those steps and followed the instructions @abj gave me above and it worked perfectly fine!
