      I have Kodi installed on the SD card on the raspberry since that i always watching my classic tv and movies.
      I have a USB drive a great size, can i just create a partition on the usb drive and format to for Retropie and the other part of the USB drive for my games. I just thought on that, since i'm not always playing games.

        If you can install RaspiOS on that partition and have it working, then you can install RetroPie (manually) over it. Using the Raspberry Pi image provided is not going to work to install RetroPie just for a partition.
