Atari 5200 no sound
-
@mitu Sure, here ya go.
i Model or other hardware: PI5
Power Supply used: Power supply that came with the canakit I got.
RetroPie Version Used: 4.8.7
Built From: Just installed on top of the OS since there's no pre-built image for it.
USB Devices connected: None
Controller used: PS5 controller(just using this for testing until i get this all setup)
Error messages received: No error. Just getting no sound on the lr-atari800 emulator
Verbose log (if relevant): Nothing really. Just checked the runcommand.log and there's nothing abnormal in there.
Emulator: lr-atari800I did some more testing last night and I got some atari 800 roms as well. I ran these on another machine to test and they do have sound, but when throwing it on the pi and using lr-atari800 as the emulator they load find and just have no sound.
The strange part about this is I've had this pi running for a few months now and added the a few atari 5200 roms to it and it was working with the two or three I was testing with. I ended up wiping the pi and starting over since I had some other issues with it, which were self inflicted due to me messing with stuff, and now they just boot up fine with no sound.

OK, so if only Atari 5200 roms don't have sound, this means the other systems/ROMs do have sound, right ?
Did you reset the RetroArch configuration for thea5200
system or otherwise changed it (overrides ?) ? Can you post a verbose log (runcommand.log
) on pastebin.com ? -
All of the other systems work fine and have sound. I'm just running the default setup for the lr-atari800 setup. I haven't made any changes to the config other then adding the BIOS files.
https://pastebin.com/9ghRmFB9 for the runcommand.log output.

Disconnect the PS gamepad and try to launch the game only with the keyboard - do you have audio ?
-
I tried both with and without the keyboard and gamepad and got the same results; however I was sitting near the thing and it is getting sound. It's just so faint and distorted you have to put your head right up against the speaker to hear it.

Apparently the problems appeared from update 4.8.7, previously lr-atari800 worked fine, psx-rearmed also presents problems. I can say that version 4.8.6 is the most stable.

@nesfredo The issue is not related to the RetroPie version, but with the Libretro core version. Latest version of the core (18 May 2024) indeed has a regression with the audio volume.
@jadams I reported this upstream, maybe they'll have a solution, but if they don't respond in a timely manner we'll find a local solution to this issue. -
We've patched the regression in RetroPie. Update to the latest version of the script and then re-install/update the
lr-atari800
package in order to get the modified package. -
I've just updated the script and the core on a 3B and still have the same quiet hissing sound
EDIT: never mind, I have updated from binary instead of source, sorry! Thanks for the fix

@mitu I am good to go as well. Thanks for the fix.
