      I recently re-paired my SN30 Pro+ to my Retropie 4.2 (EDIT: I meant Retropie 4.8) running on my Pi 4, and I used X-input mode this time around to take advantage of rumble when playing PS1 games.

      But whenever I'm using this controller in X-input mode all ROMs across all systems take upwards of 30-40 seconds to launch. When using any other controller they launch in about five seconds or so. After doing some digging, it sounds like this is a common issue when using X-input on Retropie, but most of the posts about it were from years ago.

      I was wondering if there was any fix for this. I've tried updating my xpad drivers, but no dice. If anyone has any advice I'd greatly appreciate it since this issue is pretty annoying.

        This is not a RetroPie issue, but is due to 8BitDo controller - the problem was reported here and happens on Linux with RetroArch and it's not limited to RetroPie.

        The solution is to either upgrade RetroArch to a current release or try using the xpadneo driver. Both of them are available in the current RetroPie release, while 4.2 is too old to have them available, though I doubt you're really using version 4.2 on a Pi4.

          @mitu Oh, oops. I meant Retropie 4.8.

          I saw xpadneo listed under the drivers section, but I didn't know what the deal with it was. If I download that, will Retropie default to using that as the X-input driver? Or would I need to do something else after installing it to make Retropie use it instead of the regular xpad driver?

            No, it will default to using this driver for any Xbox compatible gamepads, which happens to be also 8Bitdo controllers when they use X-Input mode. T

            You'll have to pair again the controller via Bluetooth and re-configure it in EmulationStation.

              @mitu Thank you very much!

              Installed xpadneo and re-paired my SN30 Pro+, and now everything launches quickly again even in X-input mode. Appreciate all your help, and I hope others come across this post in the future so it can save them time troubleshooting.

                @ScOULaris You may want to add the solution to your reddit post.
