mame help getting older games to work
-
Hello
I have a game I like to play called Halley's Comet
I have tried to use RetorPie but the game does not load.
I know it did work 7 to 8 years ago but for some reason the new version it will not load.
I have tried Mame emulator from MAMEdev and i have the same issue unless I use an older version.
When configuration do I need to do for older games to work?
Thanks in advance!

As with all MAME games, make sure you're using the romset that corresponds to your Mame version, not some random
halley.zip
file (the docs explain this already). The page at Arcade Italia will show you the name of the required files and the contents needed, but I think if you're running themame
current version the emulator will tell you what roms are missing. -

halley.zip
That one is a pinball machine.
Most likely, the OP is talking about
halleysc.zip
, which used to be namedhalleys.zip
, i'm guessing he is using an old romset from before it was renamed.halleysc.zip
is working perfectly fine with current MAME. -
Hello
Thank you for the reply
The one I am referring to is
I attempted to install
pifba FB Alpha v0.2.96.71 684
lr-fbneo FB Neo v1.0.0.XX 7030But these are not supported by my system
mame4all and lr-mame2003 did not workI am using a Microsoft Surface Pro
Intel i5 10th Gen
32GB 256GBThis is the file name and the contents of the zip file.
halleys.zip
Thank you again

Please remove the link to the ROMs site - it's against the forum rules.
As said before, you need the right romset for the emulator you're using and plucking ROMsets from random sites is not going to work. Start with FBNeo and find the
.zip
file for the latest version instead of the other way around. -

halleys.zip
I told you in my previous post that this romset is now named halleysc.zip
