      Hey guys,

I have my RetroPie built on top of the GUI on my Rpi4 (so I can use it as a lightweight desktop when I'm not gaming).

I recently found that a few of the N64 games run better when I'm running 720x480 resolution instead of 1080. I changed the resolution using the RetroPie config menu and set it for lr-mupenplusnext only...however, when I exit the game, I find that the resolution has been changed for my whole system...I have to close out Emulation Station and go back to the desktop, reset it to 1080 and reboot.

I thought if I changed the resolution for only the emulator, it wouldn't affect the whole system but that doesn't seem to be the case in practice.

Am I missing something? Thanks in advance guys. I'm fairly new to Rpi so please be patient lol

This is not a supported configuration, on the Pi models EmulationStation should be started from the terminal.

@mitu you mean like opening the command prompt and typing "emulationstation" when on the home screen?

Or do you mean flashing the RetroPie image onto the SD card?

I have it built on top of Buster and it works fine for me, I'm just trying to figure out this one issue

No, I mean not having any 'home screen' at all and starting EmulationStation from the text console/command line.

and this one issue is caused by the fact that's not a supported configuration. If you're using Buster, then you can use the RetroPie image to boot. If you need the desktop, then you can install it from RetroPie-Setup and start it from the Ports section.
NB: The RetroPie image is based on RaspiOS Lite (Buster).

@mitu I had no idea the Pixel environment was a thing. Just rebuilt my RetroPie and it works much better, thanks
