In ClrMAMEPro is it possible to create a new DAT file using the original DAT file? In the new DAT file filtering of roms up to the year 2001, only 1 rom per game with the best dump for each region (World, USA, Japan, Europe) no hacks, no proto, no beta, the only hacks to keep are the Street Fighter II hacks but roms above 2001 keep only the roms from KOF 2001 to KOF 2005

If I have the DAT file of a console or MAME, is it possible to create my own custom DAT for 1 ROM of each game with the best dump for each region (1 world ROM, 1 USA ROM, 1 Japan ROM, 1 Europe ROM), in the case of MAME, all the official games released up to 2001 and exclude the rest, including all hacks, proto, bad, and other useless ones? Should I keep only the hacks of the versions of Street Fighter 2 and not exclude KOF from 2001 to 2005 (1 ROM for each region)?

Please help me make this selection. I have MAME 0.273 merged.
What software IS good and easy use? I have clrmamepro i confused dificult use

@carlosff2 please don't double post. I've merged both your topics. Is your question related to RetroPie at all or is just a general 'how can I create my 1G1R collection' ?

I tried with chatGPT, I generated a mamegames xml with mame.exe, then I generated a python py file with command lines for my request indicated by chatGPT, then I applied it with clrmamepro, it took 6 hours but nothing was done, the fullset generated mame 0.273 merged remains with the same size of 76gb

I don't know what to do, I wanted: all official games released up to the year 2001 (e.g. 70s-2001), remove the rest, each game with 1 ROM per region, with this ROM having the best dump, for example (1 USA ROM, 1 World ROM, 1 Japan ROM, 1 Europe ROM), remove hacks (keep only the hacks of the official versions of Street Fighter 2), remove protos, remove betas, remove all unnecessary garbage, do not remove kof 2001-2005

You can produce a custom .dat file to feed to Clrmamepro using https://adb.arcadeitalia.net's search function. It has some of your desired filters available, but I don't think it covers all your desired crietaris ('choose best game from the US/JP/EUR/INTL edution' is entirely subjective). You can also generate separately .dats for your desired games (KOF/SF2).

You can see an example on how to use the search in the following video by @Floob

NB: @floob has also other nice vides about how to build your romset collection with Clrmamepro and also the new Clrmamepro builder.

Sorry, but that's so generic to give an answer or solution. If you wish to optimize storage, you could use 7z instead of zip and gain some space, but if you wish to have all the games then at some point you cannot reduce the size further.

@carlosff2 The website I mentioned earlier has exactly the filters you asked in the advanced search, right on the 1st tab:
